Adoptable Species- Pealstrikes [PWYW]

velvetcailan

Pealstrikes are a little adoptable species I cooked up because I wanted to draw something with birdlike legs and stingers! This first set is pay what you want since idk if this type of thing interests anybody. Leave a comment if you're interested or have any questions about the species in specific. Below is everything I've written down about them so far.

General species info

Bipedal, but capable of going down on all fours. Loves to climb and tends to make their homes in trees. A social species known for being extremely loud when gathered in large groups. Intelligent and quick witted, but relies on instincts often as well. Lives with families or alone. Not particularly territorial but will drive off problem individuals.

This species hunts their food by stalking and striking at the opportune moment. They commonly kill their prey by crushing the windpipe, using their horns, or using self-made tools. Depending on the venom they have in their stingers, it may also be a primary weapon.

There are a variety of venoms among the species and some are more useful than others. It is unclear how these came to exist due to the bizarre nature of some, but the folklore among the species points to either a blessing or a curse from the gods. The color of the stinger usually indicates the type of venom it possesses, though mutations can occur. Some venoms are used recreationally, while others are socially forbidden to use on another individual due to the risk involved. Venom is weaker in young individuals and reaches its full potential when one is a fully mature adult.

Venom types
Stingers produce a different venom for each individual. These venoms fall into different categories but may have differences within the category(such as severity of effect or duration).

Pain-inducing(purple)- these venoms hurt more than others beyond the initial sting and pain may last from a few minutes to several hours
Paralyzation(grey)- might affect the area around the sting or the entire body
Necrotization(orange)- only affects the area around the sting
Death(red)- happens painlessly. the only variation is in the amount of time it takes to set in.
Hallucinogenic(blue)- it is an extremely varied category of venoms with this general effect
Sleep-inducing(white)- instantaneous effect with varied duration. Not to be confused with hypnotic venoms.
Hypnotic(green)- usually instantaneous with variations in duration, rarely these can take an extended amount of time to take effect.
Aphrodisiac(pink)- varies in time before effect, duration, and strength
Transformation(yellow)- one of the “magical” venoms, this turns the victim into something else for a period of time. If used enough times on an individual the effect becomes permanent. What the victim turns into is up to the venom’s owner.

Ears are slits hidden near the horns. Horns are usually the same shape with small variations in length. They, like most of this species’ bodies, are covered in a faint layer of fuzz. Like in humans, hair often grows on their heads and is a point of fashion among the species. Hair also often grows at the tip of their tails, concealing the stinger somewhat. It is common for individuals to have markings across their bodies, and these come in many variations. Eye color varies- the sclera can be many different colors, but the iris usually matches the color of the stingers and teeth.
