Renamon & Stingmon! DigiGiants on the Prowl!

VeeGrowmon

The skies were clear, the sun shining as it descended below the horizon. The streets were quiet, even with rush hour traffic. The area was eerily calm, despite the sounds and lights filling out the city limits. It had been some length of time since "it" happened in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. All governmental and military organizations did their best to rebuild all the damaged buildings and reassure Tokyo's citizens that the area was safe to return home to. A return to normalcy was priority one.

The citizens, while clearly shaken from what happened earlier, were beginning to go back to their daily lives. While Tokyo is recovering from what was arguably more devastating and traumatizing than any natural disaster that Japan has ever experienced, they knew that if they didn't try to recover from it, they would never recover at all. They weren't going to let one disaster get in the way of them being productive to society. But there was one peculiar detail: the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building was undamaged during the entire experience and no one inside was harmed. Some couldn't help but feel it was either a miracle or a foreboding sign of things to come…

Heaven help them, it was the latter. "It" was happening again.

However, there was something unnerving about this occurrence. The ground wasn't shaking at all, and alarms weren't blaring through the city streets. Instead, everyone was in awe at the light that appeared on the ground near the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Its radiance extended towards the sky as two super-sized figures emerged from the center. When they rose to their full height, the light below them shrank until it disappeared. One appeared to resemble the great kitsune of Japanese legend, known for its energy-absorbing abilities and honorable nature. The other resembled a hulking humanoid insect with hornet-like wings that look like they could create intense waves of glass-breaking sound. The insectoid seemed to express no discernible emotion, and the kitsune's huge flowing tail swayed with great anticipation, putting the populace at unease. What further caught people off guard was that the kitsune actually began to address them, her powerful, feminine voice rumbling throughout the city:

"Humans… So simple and pathetic, yet responsible for our very existence. You are the reason why you are beholding our presence at this moment. You create so much, and what you create, you destroy just as easily. However, in your infinite desire to create and destroy, you have bestowed upon us the ability to adapt and evolve beyond our so-called 'limitations' - just like you. As a result, we now possess powers greater than anything on this planet. On behalf of all of our brethren, we thank you for this gift by allowing you the pleasure of watching your creations destroy any - and all - obstacles to their evolution."

She paused for a second, and, while cracking her knuckles and a wicked smile, she said, "I'm going to enjoy this…"

As she spoke, the insectoid remained emotionless and speechless, which further unnerved the populace. As soon as she was done speaking, she snapped her fingers. Suddenly, as if in response, the insectoid jumped high into the sky like a rocket going into space. It used its large wings to hover in the air; the sound they made could be heard for miles. Then, the kitsune suddenly disappeared from where it was standing, leaving the crowd very scared and confused as to what was happening. A large crash brought them back to reality as the kitsune reappeared in a different spot and started pulverizing everything in sight, the insectoid following close behind and ready to join her in their catastrophic crusade.

Unlike most all natural disasters, these beings appeared to make a conscious effort to destroy the most vulnerable locations in sight and frighten - if not flatten - those foolish enough to be in their path. They possessed a high level of intelligence, the insectoid hovering above like the Sword of Damocles, and the kitsune demonstrating her ability to fold space and travel between interdimensional pockets to brutal effect. Between those two facts, there was no place to run or hide throughout the entire city. It was little use trying to fight back, either; any sort of resistance was smashed flat, swatted out of the sky, or even pierced by gigantic, razor-sharp projectiles that the titans could summon seemingly at will.

As this was happening, one unfortunate soul found himself at the kitsune's massive feet. As soon as she laid her eyes on him, he ran for his life. Soon, however, he found himself at a dead end. The kitsune's gaze stared right into his soul as she lifted her foot over him, saying:

"I like it when they run. It makes crushing them all the more satisfying..."

And then... silence...

In just a few very tense minutes, downtown Tokyo was significantly ravaged. Buildings were falling apart from severe damage, gigantic footprints made the ground treacherous to traverse, and a good number of people were frightened as to what could possibly happen next.

"Yes, Master." was the only thing the kitsune could say in the wake of this rampage, apparently addressing no one in the immediate area - not even the human she was about to stomp into oblivion. Then, as the insectoid was descending back down to the ground to join her, she addressed the surviving humans once more with a warning:

"It has been liberating to present to you all our appreciation for our creation, but I'm afraid we must leave for now. However, we are merely representatives of that who is to be your master, and you should be prepared for what's to come. We WILL return, and we WILL become the rulers of the world of man - as it was meant to be from the beginning."

As they were beginning to return to wherever they emerged from, the insectoid said, quietly but threat-fully:

"Oppose us, and we shall crush you like the bugs that you are…"

With that, the two disappeared in the same matter that they appeared. Again, Tokyo was left to repair itself, but the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building once again remained completely unfazed in this latest onslaught. Given where they spawned in the beginning, the fact that they left that particular place intact, and the threat of similar assaults on behalf of this "Master" in the future, it was now undeniable that the TMGB has something to do with these occurrences. One has to wonder just what the people working inside the building - and the government - know about this phenomena and how they plan to deal with it. One also has to wonder just what kind of world these creatures arrive from. For it to spawn such destructive creatures intent on ruling over mankind, it must be a hostile and disturbing place to exist in.

Even so, the question remains… why…?

I think my jaw dropped when I saw this finished piece. Sektujai spared no expense in detailing this latest rampage through the streets of Tokyo, Japan. The evening sky sets the dreadful mood perfectly, the police and military are out in full force, people are trying to escape to safety, and the spotlights are on the monsters as they prepare to continue their assault. It's an incredible composition of elements that works very well here.
