Kinky Dizney- Clarabelle and Daisy

van-weasel

This is part of a series of three images destined for a pop art/pop culture show.

This piece features Clarabelle as a dominatrix, having a session with Daisy Duck in a Dungeon (haha, alliteration)

The point of portraying Disney characters in kinky contexts is not so much shock value as it is, for me, a subversion of the idea that "alternative" sexual practices and lifestyles are inherently alien or bad compared with more conventional ones. Disney characters like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, etc are all associated with family friendly entertainment and by proxy traditional values. Placing characters that are associated with these traditional values in situations that are kinky forces the viewer to think about that contrast.

Another important aspect of the series is that all the relations presented are consensual. Canonically, these Disney characters are friends (depending) and there's an implied trust and kinship amongst them all, alongside the existing "traditional" relationships. The point here, is to undo the notion of bdsm as something frightening, non-consensual, or somehow evil. All the characters are merely enjoying themselves with trusted companions. In mainstream media, bdsm and other fetishes are constantly used for shock value in negative contexts- for example, American Horror Story- and I don't care for that trend.
