I've seen art styles that incorporate geometric shapes before, but not anything like this and the artists of those pieces don't claim it as an original species. So, I think this is an interesting and original design, enough so for you to claim it as your own. Just some advice on species designing: don't make it too complicated because if you do, then it might be too hard or just a pain to draw it again.
