You know who is very well accustomed to mischief? Button Man. He is a Witch (these means something sorta else in the world i am working on) who’s main gift is to be invisible and avoid danger. Most of the time he would be careful but it was hard for him to pass up an opportunity to teach hard lessons to people threw his cleverness.
"Man with the buttons
eight buttons to spare
could get himself out of anywhere
First to escape his birth
before death took mama and babe away
Second at the bottom of a lake
where men would wash their ego
Third took his heath right away
a child’s throat bruised grey
Forth came right before he grew to a man
a woman spite to drive the point home
Fifth he saw coming a mile away
he promised he would never forget the name
Sixth was of his own foolish pride
this is were he learned a lesson hard
Seven he wish it all ended here
the bullet with his name found another home
Eighth he dropped off the edge
with rope to around his throat
Now hie is still here
eight black buttons on his chest
no more to spare
his ninth no were to be seen
if you ask him where he keeps it
he’ll tell you he keeps it close at hand
till he can hand it to Death herself”
"Some how an idea was handed down from our ancestors that the dead could not pass over if their eyes were not covered. Or maybe if the lord of dead was not paid to let them in, or something like that. All i know in these parts when a person dies, if they have any buttons on them, they go to the graveman, who uses it for an exchange of goods. So there is a saying that a man only has one Black Button. and when death comes for them, they hand it over." - unknown back woods person
