Triangle on his back is like our "red cross" symbol, and it also is religious symbol - it was part of the logo of space mission, that brought morgendraches' ancestors on planet they a currently on - it was so long ago, that their descendants they already forgot it, and these spaceship crew are now regarded as heroes, or even semi-gods, that came from heaven.
