This aspiring young camel is one of the hopefuls for this year's FBA draft, and brother to my own Sobek-Ra.

Osiris “Ossy” Maasri has the the steady dark eyes of a man who knows what he wants, and the confident bearing of an athlete who has devoted himself almost entirely to the game. But that doesn’t mean he’s all basket and no ball: this camel knows how to have a good time, when he has the time for it. “Social stuff is important,” he says, “but I’m not letting that get in the way of my goals.” Those goals being a career with the FBA.

The younger brother of Sobek-Ra, and son of Bernard and Sharon, Ossy displayed talent at an early age, and was encouraged by his brother (6 years older) to pursue it. “He told me there were two ways to get what you want: to be lucky or to work hard. And only one of those you can actually do anything about.”

Weekend pick-up games rounded out nightly practices and workouts, and led to him being named MVP at his Florida high school. He enrolled at Florida Everglade University to pursue not only basketball but also a passion for Archaeology he inherited from his parents. Meanwhile, he spent any remaining time working with his brother at UPS to cover what portion of his tuition his basketball scholarship didn’t. “I loved it. Not only was it good exercise, lifting boxes, but I got to meet tons of people,” he remarked, flashing his winning—if a bit smarmy—grin. “It’s not something I’ll forget any time soon. Some of them still invite me to parties and stuff."

Ossy worked hard and each year got a bigger scholarship award. By the time he was a senior he no longer had to work to support his education, and he poured that extra free time into his practices. He was approached by a recruiter at one of the last games of the season (his team was unable to make it to the Final Four) and announced his draft intention well before the deadline.

This will be his first season on the FBA, and looks forward to meeting new people, wherever his career takes him.
