Propane Cello

Twitch Cattz

A little treat,

Came up with this to demo our recording session last weekend. Everything you hear in this clip was recorded live using random stuff we found in the garage (except for the cello, we brought that in specifically to sample :) Enjoy.

recorded with two rode NT5's and a Sennheiser shotgun mic..

I put everything together in FL-studio 10, using some delay and reverb on a few things. we recorded a bunch of pretty random drummings on the propane tank and a random big bucket...with drumsticks, a rubber mallet, and a homemade mallet (made with cloth wrapped around a drumstick head for a dampened sound, and a ducktape wrap on the other side for a more tinny sound, but still more damp than the stick alone...) then took the random hammerings and extracted some decent loops from them, stuck em in FL, messed with effects, there's some interesting gross beat used on the drums from the bucket making little reversed swooshes..we also created a brushes soundpack from a broom against random things, which I used in the more quiet part to keep things interesting. the cello was a bow and a pluck at the same time for the main stings, and some weird trillyish and screech effects (which are relatively easy to perform), the effects I used were basically some simple delay bank and reverb tweaked to my likings..mastered levels on each track with a regular EQ to dampen any hissing or mic noise that may have been in the tracks, and T-racks to limit and master the entirety of it... anyways guys, hope you enjoyed this. ^^

If you're a fan of Homestuck then you should listen to some of the things they do of the animated scenes. If you're not a fan you should still probably find one and take a listen. They pull off suspense very well and you might get some ideas.

I wish I could do half of what you put together with drums and such; I suck with composing percussion. XD

Hehe thanks, I'm not to great with melodies tho. Trying to work on that.
