[commission] Petrichor, the arhat by tsunderdog

[commission] Petrichor, the arhat

tsunderdog

This commission is for Petrichor Squirrel, depicting an aspirational version of himself meditating within a dark cave and quoting buddhist precepts.

Because this image is so personal, I would like to include a statement from Petrichor.

I think it's important to mention that I do not consider myself an arhat (at least not yet!). Very much still a work in progress. There is the distinction between Petrichor Squirrel the fursona, who is an inspirational figure and a Yidam (personal meditation deity), and the real imperfect human being who created him.

I have met a few people who could defensibly claim the title of arhat, I have studied the concepts, and I have walked far enough on the spiritual path to extrapolate upon my own accomplishments to the mind of the arhat; which is why I felt it appropriate to commission this piece.

The suttas enumerate even more powers of arhats that are a little harder to believe, such as being able to dive into the earth and swim around under it as if it were water, however the ones I have listed here are the ones that are directly grounded in my experience.

I am agnostic to "past lives" however I also believe that all beings are constantly dying and being reborn with each passing experience. Experienced viewers will also notice that the list of things an arhat cannot do corresponds directly to violating the five precepts. This was deliberate!
