Trickof-themind

Character design of the main character for my webcomic. I'm pretty proud considering I did all of it in Photoshop instead of sai ^^

I really like her face with the strong jaw and little button nose. It's not a combo you see very often, but it looks neat.

Her arm and hand look kind of wonky, though. Just a thought - do you sketch the arm first before adding the sleeve? If not I think it would help you to keep track of the shape of the arm. There isn't much of a hint of a wrist here and her elbow looks a bit disjointed as well.

Heh, since you've marked this for critique, allow me to ramble about sleeves for a bit.
See, I guess the arm problem stems partially from the way the sleeve folds, especially around the elbow. Since the fabric from the upper arm overlaps the lower fabric, it seems to imply that the arm is angled away from us, but the pose suggests the opposite.

I don't know how loose you want these sleeves to be, but I found a picture here of a shirt with very loose/wide sleeves. Notice how the folds start all the way up at the shoulders. All the weight is on the end of the sleeves since they're too wide to really catch on the arms.
On a more tight-fitting shirt the fabric tends to crinkle a lot around the elbows and arm pits and the folds will usually be at an angle from the inner part of the arm and up. Here's another picture. I know the shirt in the picture has elastics in the sleeve ends, but even without those, there wouldn't be a lot of weight there and the fabric as such tends to fold and crinkle around the wrist.

Actually I always sketch the body nude (well in shape anyways, don't see why I have to go in /that/ much detail when it'll get covered up) but clothes always mess me up in the end. Folds always get me in the end. Thanks for the advice though, it's actually pretty helpful and I'll keep it in mind for next time! Also, thanks for taking the time to give me a critique!

I'm not saying you have to go into detail sketching the arm underneath (or that you necessarily have to do it at all), just that it can help to keep track of the shape you're wrapping the folds around.

Anyway, no problem, and I'm glad if I could be of a little bit of help!
