The Cog Eternal

We are the cog eternal
Star dust and demon flame
The wheel that spins infernal
And sometimes knows its name

We are the fire in which we burn
And time, she is our friend
Our foe, our fellow traveler
Who knows no start nor end

We are the serpent swallowing
The world that is our tail
And all of us is perfect
Each claw and tooth and scale

We scream our names out to the sky
Where stars, they are our ears
And cats, they grin our Cheshire teeth
Amused with what they hear

We are the cog eternal
The gears which know our names
The wheels who spin infernal
