Gem sat on the floor of her playpen pulling at her new booties. Her mama had dressed her in an outift that was a bit too big for her and as a result the booties kept flopping around on her paws when she tried to toddle.

She looked up at the window and sighed. She had no idea where her brothers were, normally they'd be home from playschool ages ago, Rasile would be making her giggle, and Ren and Zeezee would tell her all about the day that they had had, but she hadn't seen them this evening at all and she felt cranky about it. What had happened to them?

Her little ears flattened when the doorbell rang, and she clutched at her tail looking towards the vestibule. Her mummy came into veiw having come from the kitchen, and plucked Gem out of the playpen happily.

"Is that your brothers trick or treating Gem?" Nicol spoke in a happy sing songy way to the baby as the two of them made their way to the front door.

Gems ears had perked up as she had gotten closer to the door, she could hear voices beyond the door and she could recognise her brothers voices easily. She squealed and struggled excitedly to get down causing her mummy to chuckle and gently place Gem down on the floor. Gem wobbled for a moment, unsteady on her paws, the floppy booties and slightly oversized clothing not helping her situation.

Nicol had opened the door and Gem unstably waddled out onto the porch grinning happily expecting to see her brothers. The sight that greeted her was an unexpected one. A robot, a spaceman and a vampire stood at the door. Gem just stood there her mouth agape for a moment. She had been so sure that her brothers had been here but instead scary things were here instead.

"TRICK OR TREAT" Her three brothers yelled in unison, causing the baby squirrel to burst into tears, not understanding that it was her brothers in disguise. She didn't really know anything about haloween so had no idea what was going on.

Her mummy quickly scooped her up and tried to sooth her but Gem was too afraid and just buried her head into her mummys chest and cried.

"Oh you silly little thing" her mummy chided as she rocked the sobbing baby. She looked at the three young cubs stood there in their haloween costumes looking guilty and sheepish and smiled, talking loudly to talk over Gem's wailing.

"It's not your fault, You three be safe, Rasile and Ren, make sure you help Zeezee to see where he's going okay, and be back in an hour"

The two who could see clearly nodded and slowly they led Zeezee down the path to start their trick or treating adventure.

Nicol waved to the cubs and returned back to the house to try and calm the baby down.
