I like that even Elle still just refers to Jerry as "the angel".

One thing I love about Elle and Jerry is that if you have to give a summary of their relationship it basically sounds like Twilight? I mean, young, awkward, kind of sheltered girl from small town falls in love with ~mysterious~, practically immortal, potentially dangerous guy that just shows up one day. But it works because neither of them are possessive or clingy or co-dependent at all and, you know, respect each other as people regardless of whether they're a couple or not. Also Jerry's more vague and avoidant than dark and mysterious and Elle's not so much naive as a little overly optimistic.

Smilla's reaction isn't exactly disapproval (she likes Jerry well enough actually), but rather that of course her problematically kind daughter would hook up with an angel - and not just any angel, no, the shittiest angel.
