A Plane Transformation [Sketch + Story]

Mechanical TF's are some of my favorites! :D

Enjoy the short story.

"The wind is too strong and I'm going to crash!" Drekian screeched into his radio. "Please, let me land!"

Dreki could barely make out the static filled reply over the rush of wind. "You know the law. The airport is for planes only."

"It's the only safe place to land though!" the rubber dragon yelled back, his voice breaking to a squeak with frustration. He death-gripped onto the radio as it nearly slipped out of his slick wet paws. The rain blinded him, sheets of water crashing across his vision, as the wind blasted him, threatening to fold his flexible wings in on themselves. The only thing he could see was the dim glow of the runway beacons in the distance.

"Why don't you go find a road somewhere?" Came the reply.

He adjusted his stubby paws on the radio and held it up to his mouth, gripping the call button with all his might, "it's too late, I'm going to land whether you like it or not."

"You know what, fine, you can land. Runway two, it's the blue lights directly ahead of you." A bright blue light that wasn't there before had illuminated on the horizon.

"Thank you," the rubber dragon squeaked with relief.

The wind gave a sudden lurch and sent his radio flying out of his grip. He tried to grab for it but it was long gone into the storm. "Damn it," Dreki grumbled. Those things weren't cheap either.

He looked back up and focused on his goal, that odd blue light guiding him towards the runway, kinda like a bug lamp. He shivered a little bit as he stared into it, and not from the cold. A strange stiff feeling was making it hard to adjust his wings to the variable winds. He tried to flap them but found they were resisting any movement, almost as if they were hardening. And the closer he got to that strange blue light the harder it got to move his wings. He squeaked with frustration and tried to adjust, but that sent him on a deadly course: plummeting straight to the ground. The entire back half of his body was stiff now and his tail felt swollen.

"Argh, what is happening?" He yelped.

The closer to that light he got the more that cold, tingling, stiff feeling overtook him. And now it was spreading in violent waves that made his body tense and shiver.

He looked back at himself with fear and saw that something was definitely wrong. Instead of seeing a shiny black rubber tail, his back side had swollen up and been consumed by silver metallic plates. It almost looked as if his legs were merging to what was left of his tail.

Dreki screeched with panic. He was almost over the air port. He could get a nice cup of hot chocolate to warm himself in the terminal and forget this whole hallucination thing ever happened.

But the thoughts of being close to finished this terrifying flight only made the sensation worse. His wings were now so stiff he couldn't move them at all, and it felt like his entire backside had been encased in stone. He looked back again and what he saw made his eyes go wide. His wings were shorter, covered in metal plates and entirely smooth, except for a bulbous growth forming at the wing joints. He swore he could see his wing joints growing larger and heavier. He could still move his wings, a pitiful amount compared to before and even that was getting difficult.

He felt his eyes go wider as he looked down at his arms. He watched as the shiny latex was overcome with metal plates and his fingers began to stretch, a black mass forming between them that he couldn't let go of no matter how much he tried. It was like all the rubber in his body was concentrating between his two fingers, which had now turned to metallic rods. The pressure was immense, intense and made him shudder as soon he couldn't move his arms either.

His eyes went wider still as he felt his neck and muzzle swell and twisted into a grin. Within moments he couldn't move his head to look anywhere but forward.

He tried to screech but the metal plates had spread over his nose and covered his mouth, leaving a drawing of a sinister grin where his expression had been before.

It felt its legs pulling upwards and merging to its wings and something growing from its smooth underside- "landing gear," it thought. "I'm becoming a plane." It felt its nose bulging out even more as glass replaced eyes.

It couldn't turn its has to see the bulbous growths on its wing joints split at the ends and turn into propellers, but it felt the rush of power course through its metal body. Almost instantly the uncontrolled tumble of a windy flight became smooth and graceful. The plane felt a surge of ecstasy as it stabilized and leveled out right in time.

Landing gear met runway with a loud screech and the plane threw on its brakes. Within a few short seconds it had slowed to a graceful roll along the concrete.

A voice filled its head, "Delta Romeo Three Kilo India proceed to gate Delta niner over."

The new plane rolled towards the gate, the thoughts of getting hot chocolate replaced with the excitement of its next flight.
