Palimpsest by Theotormon

Palimpsest

Theotormon

In 2019, I frequently conversed with my friends Indui and Halybs, and promised them gift art. One for each of them was completed, and I am still kinda proud of both pieces. They're not very subtle (I guess I'm not very subtle lmao) and not very skillfully made, but they show a lot of dedication that nowadays, I could never muster again. I want them to be remembered, at least by me.

Palimpsest was created very shortly after the fire of Notre Dame, but it was not inspired by it. In fact, the composition emerged out of an abstract red space with lots of shapes and squares over time, until it became a facade that I slowly moved along until I decided it would have to be notre dame just because it fit and would also save me time. Originally, I was inspired by manuscripts; hence the name of the work referring to parchments that have been reused. But even that did not justify me spending over 80 hours on this piece, over the course of a few months. Some artists put way more time in, but they have a plan. Imagine investing 80 hours into something that could have been achieved in 20. You would want to stop at some point xD

Nowadays I try to be more professional. and it does tend to result in less insane pictures. But that doesn't mean I won't try to reunite the passion I used to feel with the many, many things I have learned and am learning. There is also the urge to be unique; and while this piece certainly might be, it just uses traces of medieval art instead of making that art my own. I don't want to be someone who imitates other styles - the synthesis of ideas and influences should be new. Well, we'll see where it goes.
