This is actually something I wrote while applying for college scholarships. One of the schools I was looking at had a scholarship specific for writers, but it had a maximum of ten pages of portfolio. I wrote this in about an hour because I wanted to showcase some of my creative writing ability. I found a prompt on the internet that said, "Start with a twinkle in someone's eye and go from there" and thought it would be interesting to write from the perspective of a non-human. I wanted to make it something fun but still serious, and I thought that the different perspectives would show a bit of my skill. Unfortunately, I didn't get the scholarship, which might have actually meant a difference in the school I ended up going to. However, I'm still very happy with my final choice, especially since I had a really bad experience while visiting the other school.
