So I made spider hands, or really tarantula hands! I want to make some feet to go with them once I can get a good base, more paint for the green, and something I can use for the claws. These hands are specifically based off of a Gooty sapphire ornamental tree spider (links to examples of this beautiful creature below), but I wanted to make it green instead of blue =P I wanted to try making an unusual type of hand, and, honestly, these came out better than expected. It wasn't overly difficult either, which is always good.

I had originally given up on the tarantula foot pads, which are common in many tarantulas, as I couldn't figure out how to make it work and keep at least rudimentary dexterity, but I eventually found a way. The foot pads are lower (or higher, depending on how you look at it) on these hands than they are on a real tarantula, but that was the compromise I had to make to make these work. (For anyone interested, the foot pads of a tarantula are used like the foot pads of a gecko, and create a velcro-like grip on whatever surface they are on.)

The brown-grey fur is a local find, and is really soft even though it looks like it would be course. The green is the same brown-grey painted green =P The very tips of the fingers before it becomes the claw, and the fuzz on the bottoms of the claws are local grizzly brown. The claws themselves are clay sculpted, thin enough to be light, but strong. The triangle of black and the innermost circle of the feet pads is DF black shag, and the white is REALLY old white stock that has a yellowish tint and a rough feel, even after intensive washing, and turned out to be perfect for the white segment stripes and edge of the feetpads. Sadly the white is not commission level quality anymore, but I'm happy I found a use for it ^^
