Gift Art Project #04

This is the fourth submission that is part of my massive Gift Art Project.

This particular piece goes above and beyond anything I've done like it, and is for an amazing person I've come to call my dear friend, Kylie King.

She is an amazing artist that portrays some of the most shocking and horrific things in her art with all the beauty and understanding as if she's experienced the trauma and death herself. She is a poet, a presence that is powerful enough to make an entire room stop and give her undivided attention; she is the deepest of roars - a lioness wielding truth and justice. Her pen as mighty as any sword, and her brush twice fold of that.

Kylie is someone I feel so priveleged and blessed to know, and I am honored and humbled to be in the presence of such a creative force. She is truly a gift to the world to be treasured, and I feel that its a better place for it.

With my statement above, I'll put a little abridged comment down here that's a little less personal so my viewers aren't totally confused. XD

This gift was finished Friday morning at 3:30 something am for a gallery closing reception the same night for a friend of mine who is graduating in a week. In the short time I've known her and have come to know of what kind of amazing soul she is, I've felt more compelled to be open and frank. Kylie is one of the kindest and most intelligent people I have encountered in my short 24 years of life; and my god, she can teach you a thing or two with just a few words. Knowing that she was graduating soon (and having seen her gallery work) I wanted to surprise her tonight with a portrait dedicated to her.

When I put the print in her hands at the reception, I hoped more than anything she understood how much she's touched my heart and put a little more light into an otherwise dulling college life and senior year. She was amazed and I got so many hugs from her, and really, I feel like everything that I could have ever said in a "goodbye" was pretty much said in the smiles and laughter experienced tonight.

So this is my tribute to a wonderful woman~
