Wedding Dance (critique requested)

Telvadian Rebel

Drawn in September, 2011.

Copy and paste of the original description:

Well this took me awhile to draw and paint. The background gets less detailed as it goes back, mostly because I didn't want to take the focus away from the foreground.

Two characters from a recent RP: Davin and Mirabel on their wedding day. It's a universe of me and my friend's creation, and I was attempting to come up with cultural traditions and clothing as I went.

Tradition is for the bride to wear a white dress (as in our culture) and for the groom to wear white pants, both to show purity. (Davin probably shouldn't have been wearing those pants, in that cause, but Mirabel forgives him for being a womanizer in his past. XD ) The red sash draped around Davin's neck is not fastened or tied in any way and falls off easy; Embreen tradition says that however many times the groom's wedding sash falls off during the celebration is how many children he and his new bride will have. Of course, this means that playful friends tend to teasingly pull it off all throughout the day!

The wraps around waist and ankles on him are more practical; it's a dry, dusty climate in Embreen, and that's designed to keep the grit and sand out. Long, billowing sleeves protect his arms from the sun. As he's not Embree, he'd probably end up with a mean sunburn. Were he Embree like Mirabel, he'd probably be sleeveless.

Those darned bricks took quite awhile. I'm glad they kinda looked aright in the end. :x The fullview is pretty large because, on the characters at least, there's quite a lot of detail that I wanted to show. Anyway! Enough rambling. I don't think anyone's still reading anyway.
