Day 1 of my 28 Monsters Challenge.
A swamp-dwelling creature.
The spectremander is a peculiar being of unknown origin. Only a few inches long, these creatures somewhat resemble some sort of headless, floating amphibian with a bulbous photophore on their ‘stomachs.’ They are found in wetlands across the world, only seem to appear at night, an their glowing light reportedly has a hypnotic effect that makes any humans seeing it desire to get closer to the source. They may be the inspiration for will-o’-the-wisps and similar legends.
Being in close vicinity to a spectremander can cause severe medical symptoms similar to poisoning from plants in the genus Cicuta, or water hemlocks.
