With bow and arrows

TaruHanako

My Tauren Hunter Taru :D

Not wearing armor :> I really like that bow D: I named it Raptor's Eye because of a eye like gem x) But I think I have to make it a bit bigger next time

Also his hair looks pretty fluffy~

Had this idea because a friend keeps cofusing Taru for Hanako x)

So I'm probably going to draw Hanako, too ^^

I still have to practice more muscles :c

And I'm so creative with titles x)

May I give you some constructive criticism? I like this drawing and would love to help you improve it for future use or present.

Excellent. The only thing I can critique is the accuracy of the archery equipment. The bow is well sized and honestly pretty accurately drawn to be functional (and have a very heavy draw weight), but the arrows are much too short. They need to be long enough to draw back all the way, and have around an inch hanging off of the front. Usually archers draw back to an anchor point somewhere on their face. So just imagine the character pulling the string back to that point, and visualize how long the arrow would have to be in order to have a about an inch hanging off the front. This distance can also very slightly to be a few inches longer, but too short means the arrow will simply fall to the ground when at full draw.

Here are a few reference images for how long arrows usually hang off of the front of the bow:

There's very little standard for "too long" but too short is immediately noticeable. Personally my arrows are a little less than a yard long, and hang off the rest by about 2 inches. Oh and I'm unsure if this applies to older arrows, but there are usually 3 feathers on the end. In modern archery one is a different color than the rest, but I'm almost sure that bit does not apply to the olden days.

Anyways, just draw your arrows longer and you'll be good. I looked at the rest of your art last night and was thinking "oh this is a nice artist mmm yes good art." so you know have a nice fun time and good luck on your next archery project. Also feel free to message me if you ever want any help with bows and arrows, that's sort of my biggest hobby.

        Have a nice day!

That's so awesome~ I always struggle with bows in difficult perspectives >_<

To the small arrows: Yeah someone pointed that out, too^^ I just didn't paied attention to the arrows at all and concentrated on the muscles :(

I really shouldn't forget those other things x) (very old drawing http://taruhanako.deviantart.com/art/Taru-200412549 with longer arrows x) )

Thank you very much for your feedback and all those great reference photos! In the future I will never forget the length of arrows again x)

And next time I draw something with a bow I will surely ask you for help :)
