This is a character test for the 'Project Epsilon' comic, another DMFA-based story set 25 years after Project Future (we should be past most of the spoilers for Epsilon in the main comic very soon so I'm running them concurrently). See also: http://projectfuturecomic.com/epsilon.php

We're still in the prologue at the moment - originally a short story called 'Fear's Child' which Epsilon will later reference - but in a couple of weeks we're likely to start drawing the comic proper, and there are a lot of background characters who are going to appear all at once.

Of these, the one I was most uncertain about was Mike, an osprey gryphon incubus, so I wanted to figure out his colours and design ahead of schedule.
Since he's never seen in the story without his friend Daniel nearby, getting them both done seemed like the best approach.

Lines by Merlin, colour by me. In addition I attempted to convert Daniel's leather boots into steel plate.

Mike is a cart-gryphon turned incubus. When his head-wings appeared, he enrolled at Illiath's School for Incubi and Succubi to learn to control his powers.

Design-wise, ospreys are one my favourite birds so the choice was clear there. The clan mark was poached from one of the design candidates Merlin gave for Salomere's Dynarith clan (which first appeared during the Red Valentine comics). I'll have to double-check she hasn't used that marking herself, otherwise there may have to be a few alterations, e.g. changing his clan name and/or the colour of the marking.

A Doberman Pinscher incubus, Daniel Kamei'Sin was an accomplished adventurer by trade, and he was named after the great warrior Ti'Fiona (which is why he is also called Daniel, in case you were wondering as a DMFA reader).

A sword-for-hire, Daniel became an adventurer to help defend towns and villages from monsters. As relations between Beings and Creatures improved, the number of Demon and Mythos attacks has fallen and the monster-hunting trade has dropped off sharply, leaving Daniel and his fellows with darker and less palatable jobs such as head-hunting or playing executioner for villages too small to require a permanent headsman of their own.

When his head-wings appeared, Daniel signed up for ISIS and became firm friends with Mike. Dissatisfied with the grim direction his adventuring career has taken, it's unclear whether he'll return to adventuring after the course is complete. He is planning to take most of the battle-related courses, but is also eager to try other options.

Design-wise I'm pretty happy with Daniel, though I might remove the Doberman spots above his eyes since they tend to merge with his eyebrows and make him look rather more evil than I had intended.
