In the Project Future universe, Jakob and co have 'acquired' the technology to build robotic panthers. The designs they stole were the 7th and 8th generation robots - the Mk1 generation was actually an organic jaguar that had been genetically uplifted to sentience.

Having built various lifelike androids, someone realised they had come full circle and reached the point where they could build robotic panthers that look organic - the biomimetic panther project. This of course does not obsolete the robotic-looking panthers as their body armour makes them practically indestructible, which is not the case for the biomimetic ones. Besides, most of them find the feeling of the fur scary and confusing.

However, some of the panthers have opted to get a biomimetic chassis - and clearly this one has landed a cushy job somewhere.
Fun fact: the panthers like having their claws painted, and the prince has had his done in gold much like Orias' horns in Ahro's own universe.
