Daryil mk2 by tapewolf

Daryil mk2

This is a cosplay as Daryil. I say 'cosplay' because it's a fursuit/outfit combination, since Daryil usually wears leather jeans and boots. I also managed to get some PVC gloves off ebay for the Shiny Whore look, but since they only just fit me and don't fit at all with the fur sleeves in place, it's unlikely I'll be wearing them at a 'con.
(PVC gloves may also be stretching the bounds of tastefulness at AC and CFz - I know not.)

So. Here we see Lord Ikaarion Daryil from Project Future, with a brand new head from madebymercury. The tail, sleeves and gloves are from the original Daryil made by Shirik. While Shirik made a nice enough head, it was a bit too realistic fox, whereas Daryil is invariably drawn more like a fox-wolf hybrid. I was also jealous of some of the fursuits with wig-hair at Confuzzled and decided that the time had come for a remake.

Made By Mercury has done a stellar job of making the head resemble Daryil in-comic, and the head-wings are posable this time around. Her own photos are posted here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22352448/

The photos were shot on a Nikon 1J4, which was a pain in the ass because the timer has a maximum of 10s, and the software was a little shitty (tending to focus when the timer is pressed, rather than when I was in place for the shot. What a great idea!)
I also had to poke the thing with various sharp objects such as allen keys, pens and the Earth pin on a Kindle USB charger, since operating the camera while wearing big furry gloves was clearly not part of the design spec.

After all was said and done, the photos came out murky looking and disappointing. However, I managed to rescue them in GIMP by discovering a clever trick. GIMP provides a filter called 'Retinex' which stretches out the image contrast in a way that supposedly better resembles the way the human eye sees contrast (as opposed to a camera). The Retinex process invariably results in a garbage, unusable image - but I discovered that by putting the Retinex version on an additive layer of about 15-25% - I could bring out the highlights on the Daryil jeans and boots beautifully without turning the rest of the image to poo.

If anyone is curious, I can upload a before/after split.

Thanks! Barring some awful disaster between now and then, he should be at Anthrocon.
