I am working on lore for this, so bare with me. Some Yuvarian retain the ability to shape shift into a deer like version of themselves. They do this to better commune with nature and the elements. Some like to shift to feel the ground beneath their feet in a different way, or simply to blend into other herds naturally.

In their shifted forms they do not have the ability of direct speech. But can commune with some animals this way. Due to this those with the Air element tend to grasp shape shifting easier. Although speech less, they can still commune with their anthromorphic brethren through a thought process by using certain wave lengths and tones. We tend to call this process telepathy. Yuvarian find is hard to master the ability to commune to more then just their brethren, it takes great skill, patience and study to learn. As different species hear on different tones/waves. Due to this, those with the spirit element master this easier.

Once shifted a Yuvarian can not shift back to their Anthromorphic form for 12 hours. Then vise versa.

It is VERY rare to see an earth or water Yuvarian master shifting. However Spirit and Air have the best chances of mastering it.
