The Escape (Part 3) by Taiaboliclaw

The Escape (Part 3)

It had been a week since the accident. Tai's eye was left with a terrible scar across it and the fur from her paws never grew back. Jezero had been sent home with a breathing regulator to keep her now terrible cough under control.

“This is all my fault...” Tai muttered.

“No it isn't.”

“If I didn't get you involved in my problems then you wouldn't have been hospitalized or had to have that machine strapped to you or-”

“Taijey! Calm down!*coff-coff* ” Jezero snapped. “They would've tried something anyway and if you hadn't have had to stop to save me then you wouldn't have your paws nearly destroyed!*coff-coff*” Tai fell to the floor, crying. It was her mother's dying wish that she was to finish school and become successful in life. Now...that wish was horribly mutilated. There was soon a knock at the door. Tai wiped her face and went to answer it. Standing on the other side of the door was the Coyote boy, breathing heavily.

“You're...the student from our class.”

“Yes...but Snizard and Uni were the ones that tampered with your experiment.”

“Kinda, figured that one out!*coff-coff*” Jezero shouted.

“I overheard what they are trying to do. They're coming this way to burn your house down and kill you!”

“That's a bit much, I mean they already ruined our lives. What more do they want?”

“They want to erase any proof that they were the ones that caused the explosion. Including the victims.” Tai froze at that.

“Well...*coff-coff* what do we do now?*coff-coff*”

“I've made arrangements for you to get as far from them...and from the city as possible.”

“How do we know we can trust you?*coff-coff*”

“Would I have made a medicine that would heal you better than what the doctors could've?” He said holding up a vial of blue liquid. “Or even warned you about their plan?” Jezero was a little apprehensive about it all. “We're all in the same class and we all hate Snizard and Uni, but time is short and you have to get out of here, now.” Tai thought it all over.

“Lead the way.”

~

“A bike?! Thats how we're getting out of town? On a bike!? *coff-coff*”

“Quit complaining. You're not the one pedaling.” Tai huffed. She was riding a tandem bike with the Coyote boy while pulling Jezero and their belongings in a covered cargo hold.

“There's a boat at the docks that will lead you to the abandoned observatory on Midnight Isle. The boat is yours as is the island. I've left whatever instructions you may need below the boat's deck.”

“Great...a boat...”

“Great...reading...*coff-coff*”

“Just drink the medicine, Jezero. We all know you hate that infernal machine tied to your back.”

“Fine, but not because you told me too.*coff-coff*” Jezero drank the medicine. “Eugh! It tastes the same way burnt hair smells!*coff-coff*”

“See, you already sound better!” Tai quipped. Jezero scoweled.

“Here's the boat. Auto piloted to take you to the island.”

“Just looking at the thing is making me seasick...” Tai groaned. The Coyote boy loaded the rest of the cargo onto the boat. It wasn't a vessel but it wasn't a dingy either. It was the right size not to be noticed leaving the city, but it was big enough to hold the two escapees and their cargo.

“Any last minute questions?”

“Where's this fire you claim is gonna happen?*coff-coff*”

“Where's the trash can...”

“I'm sorry I asked...” the Coyote boy sighed. He turned and saw smoke rising in the distance.

“Nevermind...*coff-coff*” Tai was lying on her stomach groaning. “Lets just get going...*coff-coff*” Jezero turned on the boat and set sail from the dock.

“Best of luck to both of you...” Coyote boy whispered.

~

Jezero went through the boxes full of documents and notes and noticed that some were instructions specifically for Tai and that some were for herself. The rest were information on the Island and how it was abandoned. Jezero noticed a note taped to the side of the box.

“I had found out about their plan while you were in the hospital. So in that time I sent a team to fix up the place for you as well as put together your means of escape. It would probably be best if you never went back to the city. According to records you will have been presumed dead after burning in the fire. When and if the time comes for a hearing, the truth will be revealed and Snizard and Uni will be placed behind bars for murder. I don't know your plans after you make it to the island; thats all up to you. I only did all of this because I cant stand the innocent unjustly hurt. Best wishes to both of you.”

The boy had signed with a paw print, leaving his name anonymous.

Jezero walked back up to the upper deck. “Tai, we're here.*coff-coff* Tai?” she looked around and saw the poor cat hanging over the side of the boat. “Well...you'll find out when we stop...*coff-coff*

The dock was on the side of the island leading to an elevator that took the two escapees up to the building. “Seems nice enough...if you like living surrounded by water...” Tai wiped her mouth.

“Well you'll get used the gentle sea breeze *coff-coff*, the ocean view, the smell of the water...”

GURGLE

“I think I'm gonna be sick...” Tai's face started to turn green.

“Not in this elevator you don't!*coff-coff*”

After a while they made it to the top of the elevator. “Eugh! *coff-coff* Ya done now?”

“Yes.” Tai sighed.

“I hope we have a mop in here...*coff-coff*” They both looked at the room around them, the main observatory. “Well we have plenty of elbow room*coff-coff*.”

“And just think, this is only the observatory. According to the map theres several floors with several rooms.”

“Well lets get all of our stuff from the boat and at least in here*coff-coff*...but first you clean the elevator*coff-coff*. Jezero said, locating a mop. Tai took the mop and set to work cleaning the elevator. Jezero walked to the window. She could still see the city and smoke rising from what used to be their home. She sighed and looked around the room; as the Coyote boy had promised, the place had been refurbished. She went back to the window with mixed emotions; sadness for all of the things that had happened and anger for the ones that caused it. A furless paw sat upon her shoulder.

“I know that things have been less than ideal lately, but we have a new opportunity...a safer one.” Tai sighed. “C'mon. Lets finish bringing all of our stuff in.
