A nod to our past selves and those who are starting their investigations into this philosophy. Of course, none would say that we need or have ever needed to be lead by the hand into his ideals, but take the image as a metaphor. Everyone's path is their own- separate and isolated, no matter how many others you surround yourself with. Our interpretations and practices are our own. The only commonality is The Guide- the one without whom our course would not be what it is today. In essence, his ideals and his philosophies have lead us by the hand- at least in the beginning.
