Goodness, it has been a long time since I’ve done art for myself, let alone a ref sheet. Anywho, here is a new original character of mine, Araya the Deaf Hummingbird Fairy! The colours took FOREVER to settle on but with the help of @kyuuman on FA I found a scheme that worked for me.

I wanted a character that I could draw for practicing New Zealand Sign Language as I’m learning the language myself. And I’ve always wanted to give my OC Taala a hummingbird childhood friend so I decided to combine the two concepts. She is based on the Violet-Crowned Woodnymph Hummingbird crossed with an african butterfly and a person.

I wanted her to be the gentle, lovely but also strong-willed and feisty friend of Taala’s, one who would get at Taala being a scaredy cat to everything (Especially Araya’s Glimmer Tarantulas who are just the fuzziest, glitteriest giant spiders!) but not in a mean way. In an encouraging, and slow-paced way to help Taala overcome her fears. But gets impatient sometimes! xD

So hopefully I'l get round to not only making Taala a ref sheet by me, and making art of these two interacting. (It’ll also be GOOD practice to draw hands, because sign language is all about the hands.) Hope you like her!
