Water into Blood; Hydra by SuburbanWulf

Water into Blood; Hydra

SuburbanWulf

Species: Hydra
Element: Water
Lifespan: Unknown
Territories: Oceans
Average Length: 50ft
Average Wingspan: 40ft
Diet: Fish and seaweed
Powers: Illusions and increased regeneration
Traits: Scale coloration ranges from blue-greens to deep blues, with bright bio-luminescent markings along the sides of their neck and tail. Gill slits are visible down the sides of the upper portion of the neck. Slick, oily coating on scales. While their wingspan is great, their wing muscles do not have enough strength to propel them through the air. Their legs also do not have much strength, and cannot easily support their body outside of water. The long tail is used for swimming, being the strongest appendage on their body. Do not seem capable of breathing air.

Other: Much is still unknown about hydras, as they are the most shy variety of the draconic creatures. Their entire life is spent in the water, the majority of it in deep oceans, away from shorelines. The younger, more curious ones often venture closer, though are quite easily spooked away. When threatened, they will first attempt to escape, the slickness of their scales making them hard to grip. If unable to escape, they will create the illusion of having more heads than they actually do. The illusions are solid, and all heads will attack the aggressor until they can get away. When damage is sustained, it immediately begins to regenerate. Everything save the head and chest can be regrown if it is removed from the body.

The first of a number of creature references for a comic I am working on; the illusive hydra!

Hopefully, I can keep these references coming at a steady pace, whether it's general creature or a specific character.
