Tabernacle by Styx

Tabernacle

Styx

Done for a Secret Santa exchange – which I am never joining in again haha, I went way too crazy with the whole thing. Apparently I have zero self-control in all aspects of my life, including secret Santas. About 30ish hours of work. The gecko’s name is Tabernacle, so I chose to draw the Sale Lake Tabernacle pipe organ, which is one of the largest organs in the world.

I fully admit to tracing parts of the upper woodwork because I spent too much time freehanding the gecko and other parts of the woodwork. It was from my own photographs as reference however, so, eh. I have fond feelings for this organ built in 1867, as I used to work for a company contracted to do work inside the Tabernacle, and when the pipes were being cleaned and repaired, I had my own private recitals. The pipes were removed, cleaned and repaired, then returned. Someone would come in a play a song to make sure all the pipes sounded appropriately (and that nothing had been dropped in to the pipes that they missed). I would sit in the back pews and listen for the thirty minutes to two hours it took to test the pipes for about a week. Best part of my job at the time, truly.
