The Dog in the Woods

Archive

I often find myself questioning perhaps the simplest yet impossible-to-answer curiosities humanity's been left to find out for themselves. Like a dog that's been left alone in the woods. Scared, unable to find a true reason for their existence, so instincts lead them to one key purpose in life: Survival.

It's with that mindset us as humans have been able to live upon our arrival on this planet we call home. No one is sure why or where we came from. So instead of letting the constant confusion eat away at us like termites to wood, we focus our attention on bettering our lives. Not just surviving, but thriving on our own creativity.

The constant struggle to know exactly why we are here could be extravagant. But what if our purpose was right in front of us all along? Ever since the beginning of life? Like the dog in the woods, maybe our reason was there in our instincts? To simply survive and be happy. And not only have we survived, we've made scientific and technological achievements we never thought possible a hundred years ago.

But with these advances in technology, our demise could come closer within ourselves.

The dog knows no better to question its existence. But we, we do. And with this either gift or curse we have, we came up with the question no other animal has had before. "Why?"

Theories are everywhere but none of them are certain. Maybe, just maybe, we were never supposed to question "why?" Maybe--

"What's on your mind?"
"Huh?"
"What're you thinking about?"
"Oh. Nothing, it's stupid."

I wrote something while sitting at a bar today. it probably doesn't even make sense, but ohhhh welllllll ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I should probably stick to writing fiction novels.
