Torchwood Sculpt - 2011

steampunklayhr

Reupload from 2011.

This was a birthday present for my awesome buddy GhostTheZombie! It's of her awesome character Torchwood, a plant-element based sion who can turn into all sorts of cool-looking plant beasts. 8] So I decided to try my hand at his anteater form.

This sculpture took a lot of time, since I basically made the 'base' and then just started adding detail by detail- I had a LOT of fun with it, though! Figuring out how to make certain textures or emulate certain materials (like bark) was a good challenge, since I've never sculpted any of those things before. I think the vines took the longest, since I was rolling each one out individually by hand, attaching it (protip: you do not just stick them on or they might break off when it's done, so I was actually trying to blend the sides/edges of each vine into the clay base itself XD;) and then doing the same for the next one. There's a trick with sculpey where you can actually half-bake it to set certain details before moving on to the next, but I wasn't sure how well that would work with what I was doing or if I'd need to change anything, so... I wound up not doing that, and just had to be reaaally careful not to mess up details I'd already done while working on the next. It all worked out in the end though, and I think he turned out quite awesomely!

Also: That's not clay on his legs. 8] It's actually fake foliage/moss you use on dioramas or architectural models, and it's soft and kind of squishy like real moss is.

I adore this so much. I love the way the colors go together and the details. It looks just like one of your drawings came to life off the page.

Ahhh, thank you Wolfy! ;u; This was so much fun to make, I absolutely adore this character of Sarah's- also, it's so cool hearing my drawing style translated into the sculpture style too! <3
