Jaxartosaurus is a basal lambeosaurine hadrosaur found in Kazakhstan, similar in size to Parasaurolophus or Olorotitan. The tubular crest on its nose contained many winding sinal passages, effectively making their crests dual-functional sound amplifiers (for calling others of its kind) and scent amplifiers (would have also helped the animal's ability to retain moisture in dry climates). Not as fancy-lookin' as a lot of other crested hadrosaurs' crests.
This guy I drew negotiating a steep pass towards a river. I imagine the rest of the herd is just out of frame. :D Also gave this guy the ol' rhino-skin treatment, since large enough animals generally do not keep very heavy integument in hotter climates. A little bit is quill-y remnants of ancestral feathers, most is bare skin wrinkled and hardened and studded with avian scales. Overall a tough animal and not to be taken lightly as a "Cretaceous cow", like so many do. XP
