Fukuiraptor for F by SpiderMilkshake

Fukuiraptor for F

SpiderMilkshake

:D One of my favorite allosaurids--if not for its uniqueness (since it's fairly typical for the family XD) then for its rarity. So far this genera of dinosaur has one species, and has been found only in the Fukui region of Japan along with the assumed major prey species, Fukuisaurus. It is smaller than many other allosaurids, which to me implies that, yes, this species was isolated to islands and as a result adapted a smaller size to survive better. Fukuisaurus, a fairly typical hadrosaurine dinosaur, is also notably smaller than similar large ornithopods like Altrhinus and Ouranosaurus. Japan has clearly been an island nation multiple times in the past.

I've done almost a full drawing with background for this... just because I love the Fukuiraptor (which should be noted is not a raptor. XD Though I did already say it, some people put a lot of weight in names... unsupported weight!). Here's an individual at dawn, just as the sun breaks over Barremian period Japan's wilderness. The climate would have been more tropical in that time judging from the fossilized foliage and pollen found in the same formations of fossils--so this theropod is equipped with the bare-minimum of useful feathers--existing only as protective rows of quills on the hip, forelimbs, and crest of the neck (and a little mutton chops XD). These would be helpful in keeping off biting insects, deterring the odd predation attempt of other animals on a juvenile, and possibly to enhance the good looks. :D

(I really feel like drawing this guy again... possibly some family scenes and stalking scenes featuring their natural prey/natural support system, the Fukuisaurus herds... or even just some more detailed environment for these pretties. :D)
