April 8th is International Romani Day. The Romani people are constantly targets of prejudice whereever they go. Often, even the seemingly progressive Europeans will disappoint you by displaying their disrespect of the Romani people and culture. They're usually nomadic and skillful artists, but we mustn't generalize.
I chose the characters to be a bear, to represent the Ursari, the bear taming Romani of Romania, and a horse to represent the Lovari, the horse merchants of Hungary. The background is inspired by the Romani flag: the top half is blue for the sky, the bottom half is green for the land, and there's a red wheel in the middle to represent both the Indian heritage and the Romani caravans.
