I have been experimenting with sculpting in Blender, and got a surprise commission from kelchan to model one of his characters, Kelly!
This was my first experiment with texturing a sculpt - these are not final animation meshes and don't have a predictable structure let alone UV mapping.
What they DO have is lots and lots and LOTS of polygons, she is over a third of a million polys, and the colors you see here are actually painted vertex colors only!
I'm willing to take commissions of these sorts of sculpts - the meshes can't be animated without retopology but it's a great start and pretty much the best ref you could ask for of a character. Sculpts are done in Blender too, so there's no software cost to play with the file. :)
