Soul of the Sky, early morning

Comissioned artwork by Leucrotta of FA and Thos of Weasyl.

Two and a half days of hiking from Ibizia brought him to Kimberly Mesa, an upthrust of ancient rock. The solitary, northernmost root tip of a now vanished mountain range poking above the rusty sediment and rock strewn center of the Pampas. A vast, wide region of open prairie south of the Tempest River, bordered by the Western Sea with the foot hills of the Vremenski Cordillera delineating the east.

Housing a once active mine, Kimberly overlooked the graded plateau of Landing with it's derelict runways of weedy flora occupying expansion joints and naked foundations. The buildings and facilities having been scavenged and stripped away many years ago, along with the trestle railroad to Ibizia which also had been removed. He camped by the still standing wellhead outhouse at the place where the colony first landed their cargo shuttles to settle Kopno, a moon of the gas giant Kurjak. The coastal lands far to the north of the Tempest river and Pampas prairie had proven more hospitable to civilized settlements.
