An evolution of the German Messerschmitt Me 109 fighter, the Hispano Aviación HA-1112 began life as a licensed copy of the Me 109 G fitted with a Spanish-built Hispano Suiza engine and designated HA-1109. A change to another Hispano Suiza engin in 1951 gave rise to the first HA-1112, the HA-1112-K1L. The final production variant, the HA-1112-M1L Buchón, was introduced in 1954 and featured the British Rolls Royce Merlin enging and Rotol propeller and boasted an armament of two Hispano 20mm cannons plus the capability of mounting sixteen 80mm rockets. While the type was retired from military service in 1965, HA-1112s continue to see action on film where several surplussed aircraft fill in for German Me 109s. Notable films in which the HA-1112 has appeared in this role include Battle of Britian, Memphis Belle, and Dunkirk.
