This is the planet I picture most of my characters come from. I've never been able to come up with a name, so it's been dubbed 'The home Planet' for the time-being.
This oddly took my less time then my reference pictures.

I use Gimp.
For most of them, I just added the 'scatter' option with a normal round brush. For the larger one, there's a brush installed already on Gimp. It only gives you yellow, but you can change the colours of them with the hue changing part, or 'colourise'.
If you look at deviantart, there are a lot of downloadable brushes for stars, as I recall.-
Ah OK thanks for the info I guess I'll download gimp when wanting to do some space art or something xD

Oooh. And this is especially relevant - I just got done playing Mass Effect 2 and I'm installing Mass Effect 3 as we speak \o/

That looks so cool. What program and brushes do you use to make the stars? I seem to be having a hard time finding a good setting tutorial for SAI ;;
