It seems the recent mishaps haven't affected Slethy alone, maybe the mixup happened at the same time, or it's a silly prank by one of their future selves, in which case it would most likely be future-Crystal at fault for that one.
Regardless, at least it means no risk of sunburn on the ears or the like, and it does mean they can float quite effortlessly on the water now...
