I'm the First (and Last) by Shaska

I'm The First

I'm the first one to call if you need help.
I'll be there, happy and eager to help.
(Without expectation of reward.)

I'm the first one that gives what you need.
The shirt off my back, if you need it.
(Giving til it hurts.)

I'm the first one to offer you an ear.
I'm as attentive as they come.
(Even if I disagree with you.)

I'm the first to speak the truth.
Even if it's ugly, or hard.
(Even if it hurts me.)

I'm the first to hug you.
Everyone needs one sometimes.
(Me most of all.)

I'm the last to ask for help.
Not out of shame or pride.
(I just don't know how.)

I'm the last to criticize.
Nobody's perfect.
(My flaws run deep.)

I'm the last person on my priority list.
I'll survive until it's my turn.
(Even if my turn never comes.)

I'm the last to fall asleep.
I can't seem to get comfortable.
(It's hard to breathe when you're trying not to cry.)

I'm the First (and Last)

Shaska

Having a rough go at it, so I'm having a look at myself and this came up in my head.

I don't normally write poetry, so bear with me.
