OMG LEVEL ORANGE by ShadowCheetah

OMG LEVEL ORANGE

ShadowCheetah

I recently flew to Oregon. I hadn't flown anywhere since before 9/11, so I wasn't quite expecting many of the changes, including the addition of eraser-stealing security guards at the metal detectors, and, of course, the PA system announcements that would occur every 5 minutes either telling you how afraid you should be at the moment, or telling you that if you see any suspicious-looking people, you should immediately burn them at the stake.

After 9/11, increased security is definitely reasonable, but there seems to be a purposely created aura of irrational fear and paranoia around everything being done that I found rather unsettling - not because I'm afraid of terrorists, who probably would choose one of the other trillion ways to blow up things without using planes, but because it just seems like a good indication the terrorists have very much achieved their goal and that the fear is being perpetuated by the nation itself. It was impossible to be in the airport without being constantly reminded every few minutes in some form that you're supposedly in constant danger of being attacked by some invisible, nebulous force.

Several hours later, after the 20th time the Homeland Security Advisory System Level was increased to orange (whatever that means), you have no idea how tempting it was to pull an OMG in the middle of a crowded gate. Thankfully, I chose to just draw it instead of actually doing it.

My favourite part of the entire drawing is the spots flying off the tail. For some reason, I find it really funny.
