This is a bit unusual - in terms of visuals I usually depict, and method. Believe it or not, this was done with spray hand sanitizer on heat reactive register tape! I used to work at a grocery store and discovered that the register tape became discolored by the hand sanitizer provided for us, and spent a good bit of time seeing what sorts of effects I could achieve. This was my favorite.
