In this chapter, Kar gets his butt whooped in the first couple paragraphs. I know, I'm cruel. However, he is quickly rescued by an enigmatic, skilled Guardian archer named Marcus, who was sent to protect Kar until he is ready to fend for himself. (For those of you who are reading Elemental, yes, Marcus is a tie-in to that universe. same world, different series.) Learning all he can from Marcus about his new enemy, the mysterious Fifth Order, Kar realises there is another player in this game of Chess: an unknown photographer who ensured Kar would be at his house when the Order was there looking for Esmeralda.

As the plot thickens and the price on Kar's life raises, how will he be able to cope with his destiny as a Dragon Rider?
