Ianthe the Chespin - Reference

scaper12123

So around the middle of last year, I came up with and commissioned a reference for a character to fill a secondary role in PMD: The World Guardians. Wouldn't you know it, though, she's become fairly popular among my friends! So I may as well start posting the art she's been getting.

Ianthe is a battle-hardened Chespin from the oceanic tropics (hence her floral purple color). As you can see, she also bears seasonal colors, her typical purple color being her summer coat and what she holds for most of the year. Some way into the fall, she'll eventually start shifting to brown and then finally red colors before, a few weeks before spring, she'll turn the standard Chespin green.

She was born as a runt but eventually was recruited by Kamea, the World Guardian, to become the bearer of the Meadow Plate. As a result, her strength and power is far above that of the rest of her kind, surpassing even Chesnaughts. She's poured her heart and soul into perfecting her hammer-centric combat style, with the might to shatter boulders into dust and send her foes careening into the stratosphere! She has other talents, most notably her ability to consume souls. It is a power taught to her by Kamea that she uses to drain the essence of malicious and evil souls into herself to be purified, enhancing her power in the process. The wayward husks usually end up being her meal on top of that.

Ianthe tends to be a loner on account of her upbringing. Getting her to open up requires you to prove that you won't waste her time with a superficial relationship and that you won't get in the way of her rescue/exploration work. As a friend, she's very protective and just a little bit snarky. Those who irritate or provoke her are either threatened into submission or simply sent flying with a mighty smack of her hammer. She tends to be closed off about sexuality and, if pressed, would identify as asexual. As for her soul-absorption powers, she reserves them purely for those who are very clearly malicious, more specifically "the people whose lingering spirits would pollute the world's soul."

This ref was made for me by Raicatty, who posted the image on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Raicatty/status/1531476560431177728?s=20
