A Feathered Friend

sawblade5

On a very cold February Day in Bucyrus, KS while waiting along the Railroad Tracks for the Famous UP Challenger 3985 4-6-6-4 Steam Engine. This falcon decided to hang out with me. At first she seem shy but after being out there for awhile she started getting closer to me and she allowed me to get this photo of her. She is an American Kestrel (Also known as the Sparrow Hawk), the smallest falcon in North America. I was able to tell that it was a Female as this one of the few Raptor species has a different plumage from the male. The way I would identify em is if they have blueish wings, then it's a male. If it has brown wings like this one here, its a female.
