Upon the Road by Salrith

Upon the road I once did see
A traveler up ahead of me;
And though I could not see his face,
I wondered why he passed this place.

He stepped along, ne'er looking back,
And soon occurred to me the fact
That I was walking the same trail;
That, too I knew not whence I hailed.

So we two, we kept on by:
I knew him, though he not I.
Still, I felt that we were kin,
That we shared something deep within.

But time wore on, as time will do,
And I soon found that tired I grew;
Needing rest, but on I went,
'Till finally I dropped, spent.

And he, the traveler did turn,
So then I saw, and I learned.
Though as weary as could be,
Our eyes shared something, as did we.

I learnt that he was wand'ring, too,
Down the road, like me, like you.
Not knowing where he traveled from,
Nor knowing where he soon would come.

And as I fell in to my sleep,
He turned again, his pace to keep.
And as I dreamt of roads and streets,
I wondered who else I may meet.

When I awoke, alone was I;
So all I did was heave a sigh.
For now the traveler was gone...
Until next meet, I walked alone.

Upon the Road

A poem that I wrote in 2009, I believe. A while back. It's the only one I've written that I don't cringe at when I think about it!
A poem about life.
