Goddesses 1 - 3 by safyia

Goddesses 1 - 3

safyia

I was trying to do a daily challenge in january... it didn't last long~ but still, they are nice sketches, so here they are!

I'm trying to challenge myself to do more, art-wise, so I've decided to try to draw a sketch a day for a month~ I gave myself a theme to stop myself from 'not knowing what to draw', and, and a drawing time limit because I will start then never stop if I don't sometimes~ I have this book, '365 Goddesses', by Patricia Telesco, so I decided to use that for the theme~ Of course, I missed the first two days of it~ Instead of giving up, I decided to make a sketch with three Goddesses to make up for it~

We have here from left to right: Benten, Gamelia lying prone, and Hsi Wang Mu in her cat-woman form~

Benten is the Japanese/ Buddhist goddess of love, beauty, eloquence, wisdom, arts and music, knowledge, good fortune, and water. She is the protectress of children and the patroness of geishas, dancers, and musicians. Originally she was a sea goddess or water goddess, on whose image many local deities near lakes were based. Later she became a goddess of the rich and was added to the Shichi Fukujin. The island of Enoshima rose up especially to receive her footsteps. -broomcloset.wordpress.com/2013…
I have her here in a dress that is water~

Gamelia’s themes are luck, health, prosperity and new beginnings. Her symbols are two-sided items (representing the Old and New like coins and hourglasses). Gamelia is a lucky aspect of the Greek Goddess Hera, who brings fortune (especially in love). On this day of new beginnings, Gamelia extends a helping hand by teaching about the cycles in your life and how to cope with them more effectively, adding a little luck to make things easier. - 365 Goddesses
I drew Gamelia leaning down trying to retrieve her hourglass from the water~

Hsi Wang Mu was a Taoist goddess of medicine and immortality. Wife of Tung Wang Kung. Mother of Ching Wo, Hsien Hsiu, Hua. Lin, Mei Lan, Wan, Yao Chi and many others. She was the embodiment of the female yin principle and combined with Tung Wang Kung to create the world and all that is in it. Originally a terrible tiger/leopard woman or plague goddess, she was later regarded as a benevolent goddess, guarding the tree (or herb) of immortality. She was the ruler of the Western Paradise where she lived in a golden palace, hundreds of miles round, built of gold and precious stones, alongside the Lake of Jewels. - www.mythologydictionary.com/hs…
As you see, I drew her in her cat form.. just cause~ She has hopped onto the rock with Gamelia, as kitties don't really like water~ ^^

I welcome any and all critiques and comments on these~
