This was drawn for a color inspiration contest on another website!

This picture’s color inspiration was green. I chose green for a multitude of reasons; Green is a very tricky color with a plethora of different interpretations with symbolism. It can mean hope, and it can mean envy, and it can mean the beginning of new life or the decay of lives long past. As a Southerner in the United States, where tornadoes are very common, green can also symbolize an oncoming storm for me, a coming danger of tornado weather often foretold by a green sky. I tried to capture many of these themes with a teenaged Nala before she left the Pridelands to find help (and eventually Simba), such as the decay of life and a loss of hope/rise of envy for what was or what could have been, but most importantly I tried to convey that same sense of the oncoming storm I am so familiar with; Simba will return, and the Pridelands will change once again.
