Brittany's Bronco

Brittany posing on the beach with her 1979 “XLF” Ford Bronco!

Brittany inherited her green Bronco from her grandfather a few years ago. It has a Ford 460 V8 engine swap, a manual transmission, and crank windows. And for those wondering how a fur of Brittany's size could fit inside a Ford Bronco...

Due to increasing demand from Furry customers, particularly from industries dominated by Furs such as construction or agriculture, Ford started offering a new trim level with the redesigned 1972 Ford F-Series, the “XLF(ur).” It was a risky move for Ford, given such a small part of the market would be Furs looking for a new truck, but the XLF quickly gained a strong, loyal following and a much stronger demand than Ford had anticipated.

Furs appreciated not just the larger size of the vehicle but the fact a company was (finally!) respondent with their needs. Ford captured nearly 90% of Furry car buyers the following model year, even those small enough to buy other trim levels. Some humans where even attracted to the extra durable and spacious interiors. The company quickly introduced the trim level to other Ford models, including the Ford Econoline, LTD, Mustang, and finally the Ford Bronco for 1979.

Sadly the Furry community wasn’t a large enough market to make the XLF like economically viable long term, and while Ford has periodically reintroduced the XLF trim level in various models since its original discontinuation XLF models are both annoyingly rare and expensive for Furs like Brittany that rely on the larger size to get places comfort and safety. For those lucky enough to own one they are often highly cherished.
